RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
Building Positive School Communities and Responding Effectively To Student Misconduct
Removing students from class and, eventually, from school does not focus on fixing problems. It places all the attention on punishing the offender and none of the attention on the harmed parties or fixing the problem.
It weakens the community and leaves ALL students questioning the institution's committment to them.
We have to do better.
Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices REPAIR DAMAGES, ADDRESSES VICTIMS, and RESTORES TRUST FOR ALL.

As an administrator, Kevin championed the use of restorative practices throughout his district. As middle school principal, he made use of both community building and problem solving circles. The use of circles helped to build relationships among students and adults alike. Since his retirement Kevin has worked to bring the magic of restorative practices to districts throughout the state and provide support to beginning practitioners.

Suzanne Johnson
Suzanne is a recently retired elementary school teacher. She has used restorative practices in her classroom for fifteen years. Understanding the value of how R.J. builds community, alleviates stress, and solves problems, Suzanne has honed it down to a science so it fits into the classroom setting and timeframe. While many circles are teacher led, the ultimate reward is when students use the restorative
process on
their own
and even
with their
families.

YOUR R.J. PROGRAM OPTIONS
Working with you to build the right program for your needs.
Large group, small group, teachers, administration, students...

Staff Options
Large group introduction to Restorative Justice Practices for the entire teaching staff. This begins with a presentation of the history and philosophy behind Restorative Justice with a heavy emphasis on experiential learning. Staff then has the opportunity to work in circles before learning how to facilitate circles.
Large Group Multi-Day
The multi-day model allows us to give all the support need to understand the process, work through several circles of each of the four areas of the restorative process and the restorative conferencing. This can be expanded to include students in the process and have our team work with them in the classroom alongside the teachers. Dates can be clustered together or spread throughout the school year.
Location, Location, Location
Your school, your classrooms, your auditorium... we travel to you.
If the program is designed through BOCES, we can hold any workshop and program at the BOCES facility.
Small group workshops and retreats for individuals and teams held at Team Fawn Wildlife Haven in Laurens, NY, home of Kevin and Suzanne Johnson
